Sporting Success

By C Tallon24th January 2020

Successful Week for our Netball and Football Teams

Woodcroft Year 6 Football and Netball Teams achieved some notable successes this week! The footballers produced their best form of the year to come top of their group in the Barnet 6-a-side Competition held at Friern Barnet Power League. We dominated each of our 5 matches; Felix in goal kept 4 clean sheets and Archie top scorer with 6. Woodcroft narrowly missed out on a medal in the semi-finals after a tight 1-1 draw with Goldbeaters that was eventually decided on penalties. We did however qualify for the area finals next month.

The netballers put in an equally impressive performance at the Netball Tournament. The Woodcroft team were joint top of their group after 5 matches but were cruelly denied a place in the semifinals on a goal difference of one! The netball team did however come away with the Respect Award. Out of the 32 teams in the competition, we were recognised demonstrating the best sporting values – well done Woodcroft for carrying our AIM Values into competition and representing the school to such high standards!

AIM Values: At Woodcroft we encourage children to adopt a core set of values. We call these our AIM Values because we believe that having Aspirations and Inspiration Matter in life. That is why we strive to enrich and extend the National Curriculum through our AIM Programmes (AIM Digital/Technology, AIM PE/Sports and AIM Arts).

Then to add a fitting climax to the week, our girls team came out on top against All Saints NW2 in a tricky cup encounter. A tight first half finished 0-0, leaving all the goals to come in an action packed second period. Woodcroft took the lead through a close range shot from Alissa. Then, when Woodcroft were dominating play looking for a second, All Saints scored with a well worked counter attack. Time was running out, but Maya spotted Brooke in space on the halfway line and quickly distributed the ball. Brooke wasted no time in drilling a long range shot that beat their goalkeeper and flew in the net to seal victory.

Christmas at Woodcroft

By C Tallon8th January 2020

Christmas time at Woodcroft

Christmas is always a wonderful time in school …

We enjoyed fantastic festive shows from Year 1 and Year 2, Nursery and Reception!

The pupils had a great time at our annual Winter Ball – it even snowed at the end!

A team from Year 2 represented Woodcroft at the Barnet Sport KS1 Christmas Festival at Allianz Park.

Year 6 took us back in time to the 1940’s in their World War Two Christmas Experience.

We had carols around our Christmas tree, before a fabulous Christmas lunch prepared by our catering staff.

Staff performed two hilarious pantos for the pupils! Key Stage 1 and Reception enjoyed the ’12 Days of Christmas’ and then Key Stage 2 experienced  ‘I’m Cinderella Get Me Out Of Here’!

Finally, Santa visited to give every class a well deserved gift …

Grease The Musical – it was electrifyin’!

By C Tallon26th July 2019

The Performing Arts Club and Cheerleaders put on an electrifyin’ performance!

We were treated to a fantastic production of ‘Grease The Musical’ on Wednesday 10th July, staged by Miss Stubbings’ Performing Arts Club along with fantastic support from the  Cheerleaders. Pupils from Years 4 to 6 put on a flawless performance of acting, song and dance, with costumes and music that transported us back to 1950s America at Rydell High.  We saw talented and confident performances by everyone involved, and that included the technical support provided by a Y6 stage crew. Well done and thank you to everyone involved in this production – making it one of the highlights of Woodcroft’s Arts Week 2019!

National UDO Dance Champions

By C Tallon26th July 2019

Woodcroft Dance Team win the 2019 UDO National Dance Championships

They did it again! Woodcroft Dance Team are the official 2019 UK Primary Street Dance Champions! The UDO Dance Foundation, in partnership with Sport England and Youth Sport Trust, has delivered the The National Schools Dance Championships to schools across the UK since 2008. On Wednesday 26th June Woodcroft competed at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke against the top 5 schools from regional qualifiers in England, Wales and Scotland.

It was an early start, 5.30am no less, but well worth it when we returned with the top prize! Thank you to our parent supporters who travelled with us on the day, and also the welcome party that formed for our return. The banners and ice creams really made us feel like returning champions! Not only should we congratulate all of the dancers – but also the dedicated staff team that give up so much of their time to enable our success to continue every year!

Girls Football Team inspired by Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley

By C Tallon8th May 2019
The Woodcroft Girls Football Club enjoyed an exciting and inspirational day out at Wembley Stadium to watch Man City face West Ham in the Women’s FA Cup Final. With over 42,000 fans in the stadium, Woodcroft pupils certainly made themselves heard! We were inspired by watching Women’s football at a professional level and the trophy ceremony was a spectacular finish to the day. Congratulations to Man City who won 3-0, and congratulations to all members of the Woodcroft Girls’ Football Club who represented the school with such pride, after a very successful season.

Dance Team Success

15th March 2019C Tallon

The Woodcroft Dance Team

The Woodcroft Dance Team have excelled themselves with two fantastic performances in recent events. On 7th March they travelled to Wimbledon New Theatre to compete in the 2019 London Regional Dance Off Finals finishing in second  place and gaining automatic entry into the National Finals this June. Many of the team are new this year, so this was a fantastic result against 30 schools from across the region.

Then on Thursday 14th March they took their Black Panther themed dance, titled ‘Wakanda Forever’ to the Finchley ArtsDepot and wowed the entire audience at the Barnet Dance Festival.

At the Great Big Dance Off

Competitions come thick and fast for this amazing group of performers. On the 27th March they travel to Stoke on Trent for the UDOIT Dance Foundation National Competition. This includes teams entering from  all over the UK! Miss Williams said after their most recent performance: “They did really well, with better energy levels – but still room to improve!” .

We look forward to following their progress.

The BIG read 2019

By C Tallon13th March 2019

The BIG Read 2019

We held our annual Big Read from 4th to 8th March.  Our focus book for the week was Lewis Carroll’s classic of English children’s literature. Alice in Wonderland!

M&M Theatre – Alice in Wonderland

On Tuesday morning M&M Theatre performed to KS1 and KS2

Then, to celebrate World Book Day teachers shared some of their favourite books in special storytelling sessions held around the school. Pupils could choose which book they wanted to hear read.

We also asked pupils to post photos of themselves reading in unusual places! See more extreme readers on our Big Read page by clicking here…

Finally, on Friday, the climax of Big Read Week was Mad Hatter Day! Inspired by the character that Alice met on her journey we asked pupils to come to school wearing … you guessed it – a mad hat!
