Well done to the Woodcroft Year 3 Football Team who took part in the Barnet Sport Borough Tournament on Friday 12th May. After some outstanding play they finished third in their group, narrowly missing out on a quarter final place by 1 point. All of the team played with energy and enthusiasm. Mr Patel and Mr Judd, our team coaches, were particularly impressed with their commitment to tackles.
Woodcroft Dance Team Winners
On Saturday 28th April Woodcroft Dance Team won the London junior heats of the British Red Cross sponsored competition Dance: Make Your Move that was staged  at The Michael Crawford Theatre in Dulwich. Woodcroft’s dance was inspired by the Nepal earthquake tragedy and also received a special commendation from the judges for engaging with the audience. Woodcroft were also acknowledged as Platinum Fundraising Award winners on the night for raising over £1000 in support  of The British Red Cross. Well done to the entire team for their wonderful performance and outstanding fundraising! Woodcroft will now take part in the national finals to be staged at the London 02 in July. Thank you to Miss Williams, Mrs Clarke, Mrs Hurley, Ms Vanner, Miss Blyth and the all of the staff and parents who supported the team.
Woodcroft Retain Barnet West League Championship
Woodcroft emerged victorious against The Orion in a hotly contested netball league play-off final. Both teams had won their respective league groups over the course of the season and came together on Wednesday 26th April to play for the Barnet West League Trophy. This was a repeat of last term’s netball cup tournament final between these two closely match teams. At the end of the first quarter The Orion held a narrow 2 – 3 lead. Woodcroft then had a excellent second quarter scoring 5 unanswered goals. Despite a close second half with some excellent play from both schools Woodcroft managed to hold onto their lead for an 11 – 5 final score; retaining the trophy that we won last year! Congratulations to the whole squad and their coaches, Mr Patel and Mr Judd.
Amazing Creations
Nursery, Reception and Year 1 excelled themselves on Thursday 30th March with an outstanding Easter Bonnet Parade. They were also joined by some of our younger representatives from Little Oaks, our Thursday Parent and Toddler Group. The time and effort that had been put into the bonnet creations on parade was astonishing. Well done to everyone who had helped make this event such a success.
Outstanding Show of Woodcroft Talent
On Wednesday 29th March we enjoyed an outstanding evening of song, dance, acrobatics and humour at the Woodcroft WOW Factor 2017. To a packed house of family and friends, our talented finalists competed to become the WOW Factor Winners. All of the acts were outstanding, and had already won their year group heats. The VIP judges had a difficult job picking winners. However, after much deliberation, Taylor, Bruno and Simon chose the The Jewellery Box group from KS1 and Triversity from KS2. Â Well done to all of the performers, you were amazing! Thank you to all of the staff and judges for helping make it such a great event.

Well done to everyone for making Red Nose Day 2017 such a fun event at Woodcroft. Everyone dressed up in funny fashion and were striking their poses on the stage. We were greeted on the playground in the morning by buskers from our Choir and Guitar Clubs. Teachers were set a fun dressing up challenge in assembly that got everyone laughing. We also learnt about the real reasons why raising money for Comic Relief is so important and how vital it was to ‘Make Our Laugh Matter’!
So far we have raised an amazing £565 for Comic Relief!
We have enjoyed three fabulous music concerts over the past week. On Friday 17th March our brass, woodwind and guitar musicians performed to the school and their families. Then on Monday 20th it was the turn of our Year 3 whole class ukulele players to take to the stage. Finally, on Thursday 23rd March our strings orchestra and ensemble played and accomplished concert. We have thoroughly enjoyed this spring season of concerts and marvel at the quality of play achieved. Congratulations to our musicians, and well done to all of our specialist music staff; Miss Sherring, Mr Huckerby, Miss Blyth, Mrs McLean, Mrs Hooker and Mrs Reader – you are all doing a fantastic job!

Woodcroft Pupils Walk with their ConnectED Partners
On the March 16th Woodcroft pupils joined 1000s of other children when we took part in The Mayor of Barnet’s ‘Golden Kilometre Challenge’, an event across 8 schools and 5 different venues!
The ConnectED Partnership (Barnfield, Broadfields, Colindale, Edgware, Goldbeaters, Rosh Pinah, The Orion and Woodcroft) united with the Mayor, Cllr Stock and Cllr Thompstone to host joint, simultaneous kilometre walks. The Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Barnet then travelled between each of the venues with the ‘golden baton’ that had started its journey here at Woodcroft with one of our own Bronze Sports Ambassadors, Diana (Y5). At each walk two children joined the minibus so that all the schools had been connected by the end of the day!

All of the pupils performed with confidence and enthusiasm. A big thank you goes to all of the hard working Year 3 staff.
