A Woodcroft team were the eventual winners of the first connectED dodgeball event. It was a close competition, played in very a positive spirit.

Three local schools; Woodcroft, Goldbeaters and The Orion, are currently benefiting from sponsorship through Tutor Hunt to run weekly dodgeball clubs in each of the schools. This tournament,  bringing the school clubs together at the end of their first term was hosted at Woodcroft, and in partnership with coaches from CSE Sport.

Well done to all our musicians and choir for their excellent performances, to an audience of friends and family, in the Autumn Music Showcase on Thursday 26th November. Every pupil performed with confidence and enthusiasm, even our younger musicians who only started learning their instruments in September! The standard of music goes form strength to strength at Woodcroft, exemplified by the outstanding pieces performed by our senior string ensembles and choir. Thank you to our dedicated Music department lead on the evening by Miss Sherring and Miss Blyth, supported by our fantastic BEAT tutors.

Year 3 Ukulele Concert

On Monday 30th November Year 3 then entertained us with their Autumn Ukulele Concert. To an audience of friends and family, and after only 10 lessons,  they confidently played and sang an astonishing 5 pieces; ranging from Hungarian folk songs to a rendition of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’!
Every pupil learns to play a tuned instrument at Woodcroft during Year 3. Well done to the BEAT (Barnet Education Arts Trust) tutors and Woodcroft staff for their support of our music programme.

Guitar Club busking to parents for Children in Need 2015

Thank you to everyone for supporting our Children In Need Day at Woodcroft. The pupils looked great in their ‘Champions of Change’ gold and silver themed outfits and accessories. The day began with Guitar Club busking in the playground before school; raising a fantastic £89.00! Later, in a special assembly lead by Mr Russell and Miss Sherring, we then learnt about the reasons for raising money for this important charity, and the pupils sang our favourite Children in Need song, ‘Superhero’. Finally, we finished off the day with Pudsey’s Champion Challenge Quiz between the teachers. Unfortunately, there was a rather messy penalty for getting a question wrong!

Woodcroft Y6 enjoy the launch night of this outstanding new play!

On Tuesday 10th November a group of Woodcroft Year 6 pupils attended the launch night of an outstanding new play, Baddies: The Musical, at the Unicorn Theatre.
Our evening started with a short walk along the Thames to take in the London skyline at night. We then thoroughly enjoyed the show with seats right at the very front. In the story, the Big Bad Wolf had been thrown in jail for being too good at being bad; transporting us into the lives of everyone’s favourite fairy-tale villains. The script posed the question, ‘how were we supposed to tell who the good guys were if all of the baddies were locked up?’ There was also something very suspicious about the two goodies Peter Pan and Cinderella! Not all was as it first seemed, and we learnt some important messages about bullying and friendships throughout the story.
After the show were treated to a reception with juice and cakes courtesy of Unicorn Schools, our collaborate partner, before boarding the coach for a very late return to school. Well done to all of the pupils for their impeccable behaviour, and thank you to The Unicorn Theatre for making us feel so welcome. We hope that the rest of Woodcroft KS2 enjoy the show when all 250 of them attend the following day on Wednesday!

Dr. Bike visited Woodcroft on Monday 9th November to carry out FREE bike checks and minor repairs. This was a great opportunity to get your bike checked over to make sure it is safe and roadworthy. If you didn’t make use of this free service as part of the Sustrans Bike It programme, make sure you bring in your bicycle next time Dr. Bike visits Woodcroft.

Sustrans is charity enabling people to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys. Woodcroft is a TfL Gold STARS accredited school and actively supports sustainable travel initiatives.

On Friday 23rd October Woodcroft hosted an Infant Music Festival organised by Barnet’s Music Service, BEAT (Barnet Education Arts Trust). We were visited by 270 pupils from nearby schools; Courtland, Blessed Dominic, Barnfield and Broadfields. Our Year 2 classes joined the festival and sang a repertoire of songs, including one penned by our very own Mr Huckerby. Well done to our Year 2 pupils, their teachers and Mrs Sherring for preparing and representing Woodcroft to such high standards.

Residency Week 5: Special Tasks – Dance, Visual Art, Music, Movement and Film Making

The whole school came together on the final Friday of half term for a raucously fun assembly inspired by our resident artist, Greg Sinclair. As part of our Unicorn Theatre ‘All Ears’ collaboration project Greg asked each class to set a creative challenge for the next group; the results are captured on our All Ears pages: click here to see more photos.
