On Tuesday 1st November Woodcroft was visited by 300 children from other local schools to take part in a Key Stage 1 Music Festival. The Festival was organised by BEAT (Barnet Education Arts Trust) and based around the theme of Pirates to link with ‘International Talk Like a Pirate Day.’ Our Year 2s performed songs learned in music lessons and presented a poem learned in their English lessons. Each school also had the opportunity to perform their own song. Woodcroft’s item was composed by our very own Mr Huckerby. Congratulations to our Year 2s for their fantastic performance!
Woodcroft has yet again received the highest award for school sports and games. On Friday 21st October we were presented with the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Award for the second year in succession. This prestigious kitemark is only awarded to schools that demonstrate the highest levels of commitment and participation to sports and games throughout the academic year. At a special assembly, Ashely Stewart,
Strategic Sports Manager for Barnet, presented Woodcroft with a certificate of recognition and congratulated pupils and staff for their dedication to school PE & sport. You can find out more about the award, and see Woodcroft’s online gold medal at
We enjoyed another successful International Day on Thursday 20th October. All our pupils looked wonderful as they came to school dressed in the traditional clothes of their families’ home countries.
At the end of the school day, Friends of Woodcroft had organised an International Cake Sale with donations from across the school community. Parents had baked traditional cakes or decorated them in the colors of their national flags. The sale raised over £300 with proceeds being put towards the purchase of dual language books for the school library.

Coin Picture and Harvest Basket Collections
Our annual harvest coin picture took shape on Thursday 13th October. Every pupil had brought in their bag of loose change to add to the design. This ye
ar’s benefiting charity is AgeUK Barnet. Parents and pupils were then invited back into the hall after school to view the finished design before it was collected together and counted.
On Friday 14th October every class decorated a harvest basket filled with food that the pupils had donated. These were celebrated in a special harvest assembly.
Last week we enjoyed a visual arts focus to our lessons. From Nursery to Y6 each class studied a particular artist and produced some stunning work. Take a look down the Gallery Corridor in school or on the Treehouse to see what your child was up to.
Year 4 studied photographer Kike Calvo to produce these amazing images during Art Week to support their National Nutcracker project with the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet. They projected backgrounds in our 4D immersive suite and thought carefully about the lighting that they needed to use to emphasise movement. Take a look at their gallery page by clicking here
2016 Team of the Year – Woodcroft Football Team
Woodcroft footballers were awarded Team of the Year at Barnet’s prestigious School Sports Awards on Friday 30th September. At the presentation ceremony held at Finchley Arts Depot our boys were presented with their trophy by two up and coming stars of rugby from Saracens.
You can see their glittering prize in our now overflowing awards cabinet located in the main foyer. Last season our team won a clean sweep of major trophies including the two Barnet knock out cups (Martin Cup and Dick Bailey Cup) and the Munroe Shield (overall league champions). They were also runners-up in the North London 6-a-side tournament. This award is a fitting climax to what has been quite an amazing year for Football at Woodcroft! Congratulations must also go to Mr Judd and Miss Clarke for their support and coaching of the team.

The Arts Award at Woodcroft is the culmination of our innovative AIM@Arts programme that extends and enriches the curriculum throughout the school. Woodcroft is a registered Arts Award Centre with 4 staff accredited to run the course. We hope that these amazing pupils continue to aspire to achieve in the Arts throughout their secondary education.

At the festival we joined the other ConnectED Partnership Schools (Barnfield, Broadfields, Goldbeaters and The Orion) to showcase our fantastic pupils’ talents on the stage with a performances of singing and dance.

More extra-curricular clubs and activities than ever before!
Woodcroft will be running an amazing 30 extra curricular clubs and activities this term – with more on the way!
We also provide subsidised instrumental tuition, host our own daily Acorns After School Club and a great value breakfast club, and a weekly Parent & Toddler Group called ‘Little Oaks’.
All of these clubs and activities support our AIM programmes (Aspiration & Inspiration Matter) to extend and enrich the curriculum. The majority of clubs are run voluntarily by our wonderfully dedicated staff and most are FREE.
Pupil have been telling their teachers which clubs they are interested in this week. As always, most clubs are over subscribed. If your child brings home a club registration form it means they have been offered a place in a particular club. Please complete and return ASAP as failure to do so may result in a place being offered to another child on the waiting list.
Copies of the AIM Club Leaflet can be found in the main foyer or download by clicking here.
Starts Thursday 15th September – All pre-school children and babies aged 0 – 3 years are welcome to join in with the fun!
