Let’s get blogging about our best books. If you could only choose one, which book would you take to a desert island? Why would you take it? Tell the rest of the school on the TreeHouse #BigReadWeek/ Desert Island Reads
We hope that everyone gets involved in our Big Read Week!

Digital Champions Assembly: #SID2017 Launch
On Monday 6th February our Digital Champions prepared and presented an assembly to the whole school about safe internet use to get us ready for Safer Internet Day 2017. Safer Internet Day 2017: Be the change: unite for a better internet
Safer Internet Day 2017 was celebrated globally on Tuesday 7th February with the theme ‘Be the change: unite for a better internet’. Every class throughout the school took part in activities during PSHE lessons discovering how to show good manners while on the internet, and learning about online safety. We call this Digital Wisdom at Woodcroft.
Technology Day
Every year group was set two challenges:
Challenge 1: Try out a new application or digital resource that you haven’t used before
Challenge 2: Develop computational thinking through an ‘unplugged’ activity; learning about computing and coding without using any technology!
Some amazing activities took place! Here is just a small sample…
Unplugged: Physical Pac Man, debugging baking recipes, creating physical email servers, following algorithm instructions and musical coding!
Plugged: Digital film making, applications for leaning, Google G Suite, Storybird, WeVideo and Beebot coding.
Online Safety Parent Workshop
On Thursday 9th February parents were invited to a workshop to discuss the complex issues encountered when children use devices to go online. Mr Guest presented the outcomes from Woodcroft’s most recent pupil surveys and highlighted some of the main issues. Practical ideas for how to help your child and links to recommended websites were also given.
