Woodcroft Awarded ‘Best Music Department’
At a gala ceremony held on 12th March at The Grange St. Paul’s Hotel, Woodcroft won the award for ‘Best School Music Department’ 2015!
Mr Tallon (Headteacher) and Miss Sherring (Music Leader) collected the award on behalf of the school. They were joined at the prize giving dinner by fellow teachers; Miss Blythe, Mr Huckerby and Assistant Head Mrs Valoti. Also on the Woodcroft table was Lynn Holman-Fox, CEO of BEAT, Barnet’s Music Hub. The director of one of our sponsors, TutorHunt, and members of his family were also with us to share our success.
To be recognised by this award, as one of the best schools for music in the country, is an absolutely fantastic achievement. It is a credit to Ms Sherring and the whole music team, but most of all the pupils! Their dedication and enthusiasm to learn make it all worthwhile.
We had a fantastic night at the Music Awards, hosted by Music Teacher Magazine. Take a look at the photos below (click to enlarge). For more details about the awards visit the Music Awards website by clicking here.
Woodcroft would like to thank the Barnet Education Arts Trust (BEAT) and their instrument teachers for the support and opportunities they provide. We also owe gratitude to our sponsors Coreco and Tutorhunt for their on-going assistance, enabling us to provide inclusive music at Woodcroft.
We have been doing something funny for money!
We have been taking part in lots of Red Nose Day events today! We all came to school with decorated heads and in assembly the teachers took part in a Comic Relief Bake Off. Click here or on the picture to go to the full gallery of photos. We will update with the total raised very soon.
On Monday 9th March Woodcroft hosted a cluster rehearsal in preparation for BEAT’s gala concert at the Royal Albert Hall on April 23rd. Our Senior Choir collaborated with 2 other local schools and worked with BEAT staff and members of the English Pocket Opera Company to rehearse works for the performance. Our pupils did an outstanding job at the rehearsal, and proved they are well on their way to a fantastic performance at the Royal Albert Hall!

Outstanding J Rock Performance
Woodcroft’s J Rock Dance Club took to the stage at the Finchley Arts Depot last night and wowed the audience with an outstanding performance of their latest piece, ‘A Sting In The Tale’. Well done to all of the dancers and support staff for creating this top quality dance routine. The group are pictured above just before they performed. Parents will be able to purchase a DVD of the show directly from school.
Our Biker’s Breakfast on Tuesday 10th March from 8:00am to 8:40am was a great success with pupils, parents and staff. Everyone who cycled or scooted into school enjoyed a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, yoghurts, brioche and flapjacks. The pupils also got to make their own fresh fruit smoothie using pedal power on the ‘Smoothie Bike’. Our Woodcroft Bike It Crew supported the event and said ‘It was really exciting cycling to make a smoothie on the smoothie bike as I’ve never seen one before! ‘ and ‘I’m already looking forward to the next Biker’s Breakfast.’
Thank you to everyone who made the breakfast such fun!
The event is part of our ‘Bike It’ programme in association with Sustrans that aims to encourage safe cycling Click on the image below to view our ‘Bike It Gallery’ of recent events.
Who do you recognise?
Mr Russell and Miss Sherring lead an assembly on Monday that aimed to inspire some creative designs for Red Nose Day 2015! They invited staff to the stage for a ‘Face Off’! Teachers from each year group had 3 minutes to decorate each other and come up with the funniest face! Who gets your vote?
How are you going to accessorise your head on Friday and do something funny for money?
