On Friday 23rd October Woodcroft hosted an Infant Music Festival organised by Barnet’s Music Service, BEAT (Barnet Education Arts Trust). We were visited by 270 pupils from nearby schools; Courtland, Blessed Dominic, Barnfield and Broadfields. Our Year 2 classes joined the festival and sang a repertoire of songs, including one penned by our very own Mr Huckerby. Well done to our Year 2 pupils, their teachers and Mrs Sherring for preparing and representing Woodcroft to such high standards.
Residency Week 5: Special Tasks – Dance, Visual Art, Music, Movement and Film Making

Class 3S were asked by 2W to arrange for a big, enormous robot to visit! Click on the photo above see what special tasks the other classes were set…
Question:
‘When would you meet an enormous robot, see fireworks, listen to rainmaker instruments, dance in style, sing to the school, make play dough, create paper collage, go on bear hunt, become a ‘Cheeky Monkey’, breakdance, make salsa, speak French, dance to Michael Jackson and have a class race against your teacher?’
Answer:
‘In an ‘All Ears’ Special Task assembly with Greg Sinclair!’
The whole school came together on the final Friday of half term for a raucously fun assembly inspired by our resident artist, Greg Sinclair. As part of our Unicorn Theatre ‘All Ears’ collaboration project Greg asked each class to set a creative challenge for the next group; the results are captured on our All Ears pages: click here to see more photos.
Woodcroft Helps Launch London Wide Arts Campaign
Last week was the start of a new campaign for schools to come together and take practical steps to improve the creative and cultural education offer for children.
London Arts Organisation A.N.D. (A New Direction) is funded by the Arts Council England to connect young people with great arts and culture across the region. Thier new campaign, Generation Culture, was launched last week. At Woodcroft we already have a reputation for outstanding Arts education and so have been featured as part of the campaign launch. Woodcroft was honored to be the first school to pledge support. You can read the article about Woodcroft at the address below;

A Celebration of Culture and Diversity
Wednesday 21st October was INTERNATIONAL DAY at Woodcroft. We celebrated the fantastic diversity of people that make up our wonderful school community. Children and staff came to school dressed in traditional clothes from their home countries or the colours of their national flag.
In a special assembly we came together representing every continent of the world. At the end of the day we had our International Cake Sale. Thank you to everyone for their contributions.

Bronze Medals for the Woodcroft Team
Congratulations to our Football Team for winning a brilliant bronze medal at the Barnet Mixed Football Tournament!
Over 30 schools entered the competition held at Friern Barnet Power League on Tuesday 20th October. Woodcroft won their group of 5 teams to progress through to a quater final match against Wessex Gardens. Goals from William and Usman secured that victory earning a place in the semis. However, we came up against the eventual winners, Summerside, the only team to defeat us all day! Despite our disappointment at missing out on the final we put on terrific performance in the bronze medal play-off match, winning 4-2 against Akiva, finishing in overall 3rd place. What an excellent first outing for our new kit.
Our coaches; Mr Judd, Mrs Clarke and Mr Gagen were extremely proud of all of the team. Makayla and Hira were voted payers of the tournament for some outstanding defending and goalkeeping.

Thank you to everyone for their generosity towards our Harvest Festival collections this week. The food hamper display and ‘coin-picture’ collections in aid of ‘AgeUK Barnet’ and the ‘British Red Cross Nepal Disaster Fund’ looked fantastic and raised a total of £322. This week Year 3 travelled in our TARDIS to have a very special meeting with the famous pharaoh, Tutankhamun. The pupils got to take part in a real life mummification experience! They carefully followed the steps they had learned and were able to prepare the pharaoh for the afterlife. Year 3 want to say a very big thank you to Tutankhamun and wish him all the best in the afterlife. Take a look at some photos of our day – click on a thumbnail to view the gallery slideshow.

FOUNDATION STAGE WIN MOST ENTHUSIASTIC GARDENERS IN BARNET AWARD 2015!
On Thursday 8th October Mrs Brown and Mrs June attended the 2015 Barnet Young Gardeners Award Ceremony along with pupils, Arman and Ajisa, and their Mum, Mrs Husedzinovic.
The judges had visited our Early Years Garden back in the summer and spent time talking with the children about how the garden is used at Woodcroft. At the Awards, held at Sunnyfields School, it was announced that we had won the prize for ‘The Most Enthusiastic Young Gardeners 2015’. We were presented with The Rose Connolly Cup by the Mayor of Barnet. The judges commented that Woodcroft Reception pupils were always enthusiastic and very knowledgeable for children so young. Residency Week 3 – Musical Pictures and Graphical Scores!
This week each class was set a mission: work in partnership with a class from another year group, learn to visually represent music, develop a themed graphical score, rehearse a composition involving 30 pupils and then perform it to an audience – oh, and by-the-way, you only have 2 hours to complete! Take a look at some amazing images from the week (and the project so far) by clicking the image above.
